Mumbai Indians suffered a big jolt on Wednesday when captain Rohit Sharma was ruled out of a crucial game against KXIP here.
While training on Tuesday, India’s limited-overs opener suffered a muscle spasm in the right leg and was seen struggling to get back to the dressing room. In Sharma’s absence, senior player Kieron Pollard lead the blue and golden brigade.
The injury also saw Mumbai Ranji Trophy batsman Siddhesh Lad make his IPL debut.
“Rohit Sharma had suffered right leg muscle spasm during training. Rohit has recovered significantly. As a precautionary measure, Mumbai Indians management has decided to rest Rohit for one match, i.e vs KXIP,” said an official release from MI.
Injury to Sharma will definitely give a scare to Indian selectors who will be picking the squad for the World Cup next week.
