PUNE: The Bishop’s School in the city, having its branches in Camp, Kalyaninagar and Undri, has decided to change its academic schedule on the lines of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which ends the academic calendar in February.

The move follows the Council for the Indian Secondary Certificate Examination (CISCE)’s decision to conduct board exams in February for classes IX to XII from 2020.

The Bishop’s School, which is affiliated to CISCE, sent out a circular to all parents of students studying in the school’s three branches on Tuesday stating that the CISCE had scheduled the board examinations for classes 9 to 12 to February each year, commencing 2020.

In view of the same, the school would change the schedule for the rest of the school from March to February next year to coincide with the council requirements. The school said that it would issue a detailed schedule of the two-term academic session in due course of time.

All the schools affiliated to the CBSE board in Maharashtra follow a similar pattern. Markus Deshmukh, spokesperson, The Bishop's School, said, “The change has been made based on the council guidelines. The final term exam will be conducted in February following which students will take a break. The new classes will begin in April and go on for a month. Again, there will be a break in May. In June, the classes will resume again.”

Principal of the Hutchings High School and Junior College, Rita Katawati, said, “The school management will meet and take a decision on the schedule. We have to keep in mind that rescheduling of the academic year will, in fact, benefit students.”

The St Mary’s School Pune has decided that it will not reschedule the academic year for this year at least, principal Sujata Mallic Kumar said.
