Man held for robbing, killing 65-yr-old farmer

Victim was found injured in cattle shed

A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly robbing a 65-year-old farmer and bludgeoning him to death in outer Delhi’s Alipur on April 7, the police said.

The accused was identified as Naveen, a resident of Tajpur village, they said.

The matter came to light on Sunday when the son of the deceased Ravinder Singh found him lying injured in a cattle shed and reported about it to police.

Singh had suffered critical head injuries and a bloodstained farm tool was found lying next to him, the police said.

He was rushed to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela where he was declared brought dead, DCP (Outer North) Gaurav Sharma said. Investigation revealed that Singh used to sleep alone in the cattle shed and was last seen on April 6 at around 9 p.m., he said.

Eight teams formed

A murder case was registered and investigation was taken up. Eight teams were formed to check the CCTV footage of the entire village. Men with criminal records, drug addicts, relatives of the deceased, call details of the suspects were also analysed, the officer said.

Naveen was spotted in one of the CCTV footage following which he was apprehended. During interrogation, he confessed his involvement. Looted cash worth ₹26,072, bloodstained cloth of the deceased, a bloodstained brick and a wire used in the crime were recovered, Mr. Sharma said.
