Says he is colluding with AIADMK in distribution of cash for votes

Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday demanded the transfer of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Madurai city, alleging that he was colluding with the ruling party in distribution of cash for votes.

In a petition submitted to the District Election Officer (DEO) and the General Observer for Madurai district, the party alleged that arrangements were being made clandestinely for distribution of money to voters ahead of polling date in support of AIADMK candidate for Madurai Parliamentary constituency V.V.R. Raj Satyen.

Su. Venkatesan of CPI(M) is contesting in the constituency as part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.

CPI(M) State executive committee member K. Kanagaraj, who submitted the petition, alleged that ACP Sivakumar was supervising and aiding the distribution of money. “He should be immediately relieved from the post so that fairness and transparency in the conduct of elections is ensured,” he said.

However, General Observer Vinodkumar and DEO S. Natarajan seemed to have sought evidence, if any, from the party so that they could act on the complaint.

“We explained that we did not have concrete evidence since it is hard to come by in cases like these. But we told them that we received the information from credible sources and appealed to them to at least begin enquiries,” Mr. Kanagaraj said adding that the party was also planning to meet Commissioner of Police of Madurai city on Thursday.
