MEERUT: After Shashi Tharoor, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav, who rarely airs her views on public issues, on Tuesday came out in support of the Muslim girl who was suspended by a law college days after her alleged harassment at the hands of a bunch of "drunk" classmates.
Sharing a TOI report on the 22-year-old law student, Dimple slammed the college authorities for suspending the complainant.
"Meerut girl who was harassed by college has been suspended. If institutions have lost their credibility, where do we go for justice?" Dimple wrote in a tweet.
The girl was allegedly harassed by her "inebriated" classmates for refusing to put on a BJP cap during their college trip to Agra last week. On Monday, she was suspended by the college administration after she "failed to appear in front of an internal grievance cell to record her statement".
Meanwhile, the complainant also met Meerut SSP Nitin Tiwari and narrated her ordeal. She alleged that the college authorities were putting "pressure" on her to withdraw the complaint.
"The girl has refused to get an FIR registered. We will conduct an inquiry and listen to the testimonies from both the sides," SSP Tiwari said. In her complaint to the police, the victim wrote, "They have been putting out my personal photos and videos to get me thrown out of the college and also putting pressure on me to withdraw my complaint."
