Hailing the announcement made by Chief Minister N. Chandtrababu Naidu that the Deputy Chief Minister post would be given to a Muslim if the TDP is voted to power, party’s city president S.A. Rahaman on Tuesday claimed that the community from the city would extend support to the Telugu Desam.
“Around 75 % of Muslims of the city woe their allegiance to the TDP. The community members have decided to work for the success of the TDP candidates in all the Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in the district,” Mr. Rahaman told the media.
Poll promises
The other sops announced by the Chief Minister include setting up of an Islamic Bank to extend loans to Muslim youth to start business ventures and increasing the subsidy being given under the ‘Dulhan’ programme from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh. In an obvious reference to the YSRCP, Mr. Rahaman said that some forces were trying to fight the elections in A.P. with the tacit support of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Lashing out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said Mr. Modi was snubbed by BJP senior leader L.K. Advani. On his past differences with TDP candidate for Visakhapatnam South Assembly segment Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, Dr. Rahaman said Mr. Kumar had met him on Monday. “I was ready to participate in his election campaign, if would have invited me,” he said
