‘Polls delaying income certificates’

Vadodara: Parents of children from financially weak backgrounds seeking admission under the Right to Education (RTE) Act seem to be in a fix. In wake of the polls, the parents are finding it difficult to get income certificates from officials.
The Congress raised the issue in a letter to the district collector. Former deputy mayor and municipal councillor Chirag Zaveri stated in the letter that the ‘talatis’ were responsible for issuing the certificates, but parents were finding it difficult to reach these officials.
Zaveri said that the officials were claiming that they were involved in poll duties and were not found at their work places. He asked the district collector to verify if the claims of the officials were true and they were actually given poll duties. Zaveri pointed out that the last day for submitting the forms for admissions under the RTE Act was on Monday. He added that Saturday and Sunday were holidays giving little time to parents to get the certificates. The letter sought that the last day for admissions to be extended.tnn
