NOIDA/GREATER NOIDA: The current election season saw as many as eight first information reports (FIRs) and non-cognisable reports (NCRs) being registered for violating the model code of conduct in the assembly constituencies in Gautam Budh Nagar seat.
While two NCRs were lodged against BJP city president Rakesh Sharma in Sectors 20 and 39 police stations, two FIRs were registered against SP-BSP-RLD alliance candidate Satveer Gujjar in Khurja and Dadri constituencies. An FIR was registered against an unknown person for pasting the BJP symbol in Sector 39 area, while another was lodged against a Congress member in Khurja constituency. Two FIRs were also lodged against Ashok Vats and Alok Vats of the Pravasi Mahasangh at Sector 24 police station for allegedly posting banners of “Jai Bihar, Jai Poorvanchal” on March 31.
While the first NCR against Sharma pertained to wall writing and pasting of party symbol across the city, the other was for hurling party flags in the EWS colony/LIG flats.
Sharma said the Election Commission had taken action on only old wall writings, claiming that the banners put on the houses are in adherence to the rules.
Gujjar’s nukkad sabha at the house of one Vijendra Bhati in Surajpur area of Dadri assembly constituency on April 7 led to the first FIR against him. The second FIR was lodged on April 2 in Khurja assembly constituency.
Bir Singh Yadav, district president, SP told TOI that he was present at Gujjar’s meeting and it was only a tent erected by the party workers for his welcome. “It is a ploy by the BJP,” he alleged.
