A photographer from North Wales has captured a series of incredible images of the Northern Lights above North Wales.

The photographs, which show the phenomenon in the skies above Anglesey , were taken as part of a ground-breaking new natural history documentary about Welsh wildlife.

Narrated by Hollywood star Michael Sheen , BBC's Wales: Land of the Wild tells the story of local wildlife through one extraordinary year.

The natural light show, also known as The Aurora Borealis , was photographed by local photographer Kris Williams using a timelapse camera - with dazzling results.

Mr Williams also managed to capture photos of the rare glowing bioluminescent plankton in Anglesey waters while working on the show - the same images which went viral last summer.

Wales: Land of the Wild also looks at a number of resident rare species throughout the four part series, including the majestic natterjack toad and one of Wales’ rarest creatures, the black grouse, as it fights for the right to mate near Wrexham.

There is also a remarkable look at the silver studded blue butterflies on the Great Orme Peninsula that have a unique symbiotic relationship with ants.

Speaking of the series, Michael Sheen says: “Land of the Wild is a revelation. It shows us a Wales as wild, as magical and as savagely beautiful a place as we have always felt it to be - and this landmark piece of Welsh television reveals it to us in all its natural glory like never before.”

An aurora is a natural light display in the sky and gets its name from the Latin word for "sunrise".

It occurs when electrically-charged particles from the Sun enter the Earth's atmosphere.

Clear, dark skies which are free from light pollution and cloud cover are needed for a good chance to see the display.

Wales: Land Of The Wild is on Thursday on at 8pm on BBC One Wales
