4 held on betting charge

Four persons have been arrested for allegedly taking bets on Tuesday's (IPL) match between and in the national capital, police said Wednesday.

The accused identified as Harish Arora (31), Nav (25), (21) and Gurbej Chhabra (36) were nabbed from a hotel in Delhi's Preet Vihar area on Tuesday following a tip-off, they said.

During the raid, the accused persons were caught red-handed tracking the match between and on television and updating betting odds, win-loss data through mobile phones, police said.

Interrogation revealed that the accused were organising the bets to "earn quick money" during this IPL season.

Gurbhej was well-versed with this system of betting and was previously arrested in a gambling case in 2007, the DCP said.

The accused used to book a hotel room during the matches and used to operate from there itself, officials said.

Biswal said the bookies were using the betting 'I-book' software on their laptops to keep a record of their clients' bets.
