Ludhiana: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has secured the 75th position in the overall ranking of institutions in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and 51st rank among universities.
The rankings were declared by the Union ministry of human resource and development on Monday evening. There were 1,479 institutions that participated in rankings in 2019 as compared to 957 in 2018.
The PAU has slipped by 15 ranks as compared to last year’s 60th position. In 2017, it was at 45th position. In the category of universities as well, PAU has dropped to 51st rank against 38th position last year.
These rankings are based on teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, outreach and inclusivity, graduation outcomes and perception.
Among the 74 institutions which were ranked above PAU, there are 16 new participants (8 technical institutions and other multi-faculty and medical institutions).
Among the agricultural universities, PAU remained the third best university after Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, and GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T), Pantnagar.
PAU vice-chancellor Dr B S Dhillon said, “Scoring poor in perceptions, placements and alumni connect has hit our rankings. Although we are leading in research and professional practices and competing in outreach and inclusivity, other universities are better than us in graduate outcome or placement. We will now increase the number of PhD seats.”
CMC 18th, DMC 24th
In the category of medical institutions, Dayanand Medical College has secured 28th rank in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). In 2018, the college had stood 14th in the rankings. Christian Medical College has bagged 18th rank.
