If I told you that your daughter was going to have an abortion but you would not be told, would that concern you? Yep. No matter what age your daughter is. Age 13? Age 12 or younger?
The proposed Massachusetts Bills, House 3320 and Senate 1209, consider parents an obstacle to abortion that can be removed simply by not notifying them unless the pregnant child gives her consent. You as a parent are an obstacle to be removed.
I am sure that our legislators have some wisdom that we do not have to support such shocking laws. To find out what wisdom they have, contact the key sponsor of this legislation, Rep. Patricia Haddad, D-Somerset, at her phone number, 617-722-2600.
Current Massachusetts law requires parental consent for your child’s abortion. This proposed legislation by Haddad would change the current law so that you as a parent would not be asked to give your consent. In fact, you would not even have to be told of the pending abortion. The abortionist would have to get your child’s consent to tell you what she was about to do. Please consider telling Haddad that you think that this new law goes too far, and you like the current law as it stands.
The proposed legislation will be voted on very soon in April. You might want to ask your favorite legislator to write a letter to your newspaper stating their position on this proposed new legislation. If you would be uncomfortable asking your legislator to do so, ask your pastor, minister, or rabbi to ask the closest legislator to state their position publicly in writing to your newspaper.
