Did glitch lower VNIT’s perception score?
Nagpur: Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), one of the premier engineering institutes of the country, retained its 31st rank in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) this year too but as per officials, it could have secured an even better position if a technical glitch had been addressed early.
Though top officials are tightlipped on it, TOI learnt the online feedback window didn’t work properly leading to poor score in the people’s perception category of NIRF.

VNIT has scored impressively in the three categories Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR – 64.81), Research Professional Collaboration (RPC – 40.49), Graduation Outcome (GO – 65) but got an abysmal 8.92 out of 100 in Perception.

VNIT chairman Vishram Jamdar couldn’t be contacted while director Pramod Padole refused to comment.

Officials said the perception score came out so low not because people rated VNIT that way but because the window was open for only a short duration. They said the top brass hasn’t complained yet as NIRF started only in the last couple of years and it would need time to put this in order.

Officials also said the institute itself was trying to understand the mechanism of ranking and has been consistently working for getting good scores in all categories.
