The volunteers would also create public awareness about government health schemes in Pimpri Chinchwad.
Abhijit Anap, superintendent, charity commissioner office, Pune, presided over the launch programme where Pavan Salve, additional medical officer of health, was the chief guest.
Pimpri Chinchwad Citizens’ Forum, Bhavsar Vision India, Lokmanya Hospital, Roshani and Tukaram Tanpure Foundation are par of the initiative.
The volunteers will coordinate between patients, hospitals and doctors. and will also perform the duty of transporting the patients to the health facilities. They will be trained for six months at Lokmanya hospital.
Salve said, “Young people who have passion for social service can become ‘Arogyamitras’ as they have to be agile to help the patients to get quick medical care. Students of NSS, NCC and scouts should volunteer.”
