108-year-old hospital in Palanpur gets a facelift

Palanpur: Over a century old Zaveri Mangalji Vamalshi Dispensary also known as Mahajan Hospital was renovated and formally inaugurated by eminent cancer surgeon Dr Ashok Mehta of Tata Cancer Hospital, Mumbai, on Sunday.
The hospital, which was set up in 1911, has been rendering service for past 108 years. The renovated hospital is spread over 21,000 sq yard area and has 10 general wards and an equal number of special rooms. It has a total capacity for 100 beds. It is equipped with all the modern equipment for surgery, pathological laboratory, X-ray besides an ultra modern operation theatre.
Senior medical superintendent Amrut Kalet said that the hospital was a joint initiative by the Bombay-based diamond trader Kavin Parikh and Bombay and Entwarp-based diamond rich Palanpuri Jain families who are known for their philanthropic activities. “This hospital will cater to poor and vulnerable folks from all corners of Banaskantha and western part of Rajasthan,” said Vikram Mehta, who was instrumental behind the renovation of the hospital.
