Congress President Rahul Gandhi would visit Tamil Nadu on April 12 to campaign in four districts in support of Congress candidates and alliance parties, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. S. Alagiri has said.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said Mr. Gandhi would address four public meetings in Krishnagiri, Salem, Theni and Tiruparankundram in Virudhunagar districts. Mr. Gandhi would address the first meeting at Krishnagiri at 10 a.m. and the second at Salem, in which DMK president M. K. Stalin would share dais with him, he said.
Mr. Gandhi would address the third meeting at Theni and wind up his tour after addressing the fourth at Tiruparankundram. While Mr. Stalin would share dais with Mr. Gandhi in Salem, district level leaders of the DMK led Secular Progressive Front would take part in other meetings.
On doubts over implementation of NYAY scheme, promising ₹ 6,000 a month to 25 crore BLP families, he said the scheme would entail only ₹ 3.5 lakh crore a year and when India’s annual GDP was ₹ 230 lakh crore, it was not at all difficult to implement. “If you have ₹ 230 in hand, you would not mind donating ₹ 3.5 to the party,” he said adding it was as simple as this. The scheme was announced after consulting economic experts in India and abroad.
He described the BJP election manifesto as ‘white paper with black ink’ and looked like an advertising pamphlet of a textile shop. Not even a small section of farmers would benefit from BJP’s promise of ₹one lakh interest-free farm loan.
