The Magadi Road police arrested four persons, including two parking attendants of Namma Metro stations, and recovered 55 stolen bikes from them worth ₹27 lakh.
The accused are Dinesh, 31, Faiz Shariff, 21, Mahesh, 24, and Praveen Kumar, 32. According to the police, Mahesh and Praveen would join as parking attendants at metro stations and identify two-wheelers parked outside. The accused would then tip-off Dinesh and Faiz, who would come and steal the bikes using duplicate keys, the police said.
The police said Dinesh and Faiz are habitual bike lifters, who had been arrested earlier in similar cases and remanded in judicial custody. After coming out on bail, the accused came in contact with Mahesh and Praveen and ganged up to steal. Mahesh and Praveen would often change jobs as parking attendants. Since one year, the accused went on a bike lifting spree, targeting those parked outside metro stations. The accused would sell the bikes to people without documents for throwaway prices and share the money, the police added.
Based on a series of complaints, the police kept a watch and zeroed in on Mahesh ad Praveen after verifying CCTV footage and picked them up for questioning.
