Renault City K-ZE All-Electric Crossover To Debut In Shanghai

Renault announced it will officially drop the veil off the City K-ZE zero-emission urban crossover next week, at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show.

Previewed by the K-ZE Concept at the Paris Auto Show last fall, it’s the brand’s first electric vehicle aimed at China, but it’s not limited to the People’s Republic as it will eventually be sold in other global markets as well.

Further details will be released on April 16, when it will be officially unveiled at Renault’s press conference, set to kick off at 10:20 am local time (4:20 am CET / 10:30 pm EST). We do know, however, that it will be assembled locally by e-GT New Energy Automotive Co., a Nissan and Dongfeng joint venture.

The K-ZE study looks like a Kwid from the future, with exclusive front and rear end designs and a dual-tone paint, although it remains to be seen how many of these styling elements will make it to the production version.

The electric powertrain of the K-ZE hasn’t been detailed either. In fact, all we know about it is that it’s capable of traveling for 250 km (150 miles), as measured in the NEDC standard. As a result, the real-world driving range could be about 200 km (124 miles), or slightly less.

It may be aimed at the masses, but the City K-ZE won’t miss out on some of the features that we have become accustomed to in modern cars, such as an infotainment system, navigation and reversing camera.
