District election officer and collector Lokesh Kumar Jatav said more than 13,000 applications have been received to issue free of charge duplicate Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs). Besides, police personnel not can now cast their vote through EVMs in the LS election. Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, Jatav said Election Commission has instructed that the police personnel can cast vote in the uniform.
As per ECI directive, all the police personnel who will be deployed in Indore district, except Mhow block, will be given Election Duty Certificate (EDC). With EDC, they will be eligible to cast vote at any polling booth in Indore Parliamentary constituency. Their name will be added in the voter list of that polling booth. At polling booths where their names are originally enlisted, EDC will be marked against their names.
It will mean that voter has cast vote using EDC at another polling booth. However, police personnel will be required to keep their weapons out of polling booths. For preparing the duplicate voter identity card, as many as 13,904 applications have been received, which will be issued shortly. According to Election Commission’s directive, any activity of any candidate or political party pertaining to religion, caste will be considered a violation of Model Code of Conduct and action will be taken according to the rules.
SVEEP ICONS
Collector Jatav said Vikram Agnihotri, Deshna Jain and Palak Muchhal have been made Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Practices (SVEEP) icons in the district. He said model polling booth has been constructed at public places including collectorate office, Rajwada, Indore Municipal Corporation, Bijasan Mata temple to raise voter awareness while EVMs, VVPATs have also been displayed.
The meeting of representatives of political parties for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election will be held on April 18 wherein information regarding precautions to be taken while filing nomination papers will be given. Jatav said EVM, VVPAT is available in adequate numbers for Lok Sabha election. The work of first label checking of machines has been completed.
