After CCTVs, Vande Bharat to get reinforced glass panes

Allahabad: After constituting special security teams and installing additional CCTVs to check stone pelting on country’s first semi high-speed train, Vande Bharat, Railways would soon introduce reinforced glass panes to minimise the damage caused by stone pelters.
“Experts at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, which has manufactured the hi-tech train, are experimenting on a number of methods to protect the window panes, including a combination of risen and vinyl coating to provide extra strength to the glass,” said NCR PRO Amit Malviya.
“With the new method, the glass would have extra strength. If hit by a stone, it would develop only cracks and not shatter completely,” added Malviya.
He said that the resin coating would also block the view from outside, providing privacy to the passengers.
In March, authorities had constituted a dedicated team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Protection (GRP) personnel to check cases of stone pelting on the train. Later, following the directives of the Railway Board, the authorities decided to install additional CCTV cameras in the front and rear side of the train. These high-speed, high resolution CCTV cameras would be installed this month itself.
Railway minister Piyush Goyal had earlier said that the railways would soon launch similar trains on 30 routes in the country for which work was underway. Likewise, railways has also placed an order for manufacturing another 100 such trains.
