The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has released its fourth edition of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 on April 8 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. The names of top engineering colleges in the country were announced by President Ramnath Kovind. According to the NIRF, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras has secured the top position for the fourth year in a row. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has secured the second position, followed by Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in the third position. Among the engineering institutes listed by the NIRF, 41 are from Tamil Nadu, 23 from Karnataka and 25 from Maharashtra.
Talking about securing third and fourth position in Engineering and overall section respectively, IIT Bombay spokesperson says, “We are very happy to stand second in ARIIA. It was the first time we were ranked for ‘innovation’. It is an excellent initiative of MHRD as it provides institutes like IITs a platform to showcase our achievements in research. We aim to do better and better in all categories of NIRF in future.”
According to the NIRF 2019, here are the top 10 engineering colleges in India:

The rankings are announced in nine categories – Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Law. According to the official website of NIRF, “The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on September 29, 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover ‘Teaching, Learning and Resources’, ‘Research and Professional Practices’, ‘Graduation Outcomes’, ‘Outreach and Inclusivity’, and ‘Perception’.
