A courier of the CPI (Maoist) along with two accomplices and six couriers of CPI-ML New Democracy were arrested by the police in Burumpahad in Bhadradri Kothagudem district and in Godavarikhani in Peddapalli district and explosives, arms and ammunition seized from them on Tuesday.
A police team led by Palvancha Circle Inspector M. Ramesh apprehended the Maoist courier and his accomplices — Maruthi Lingaiah, 39, of Tekulacheruvu, Ermaiah, 32, of Aswapuram mandal and Madivi Edmaiah, 45, of Burgampadu — at Tekulacheruvu village in Burgumpahad mandal late on Monday evening. Mr. Lingaiah allegedly handed over a consignment of gadgets used to recharge mobile phones, shoes, uniform cloth, SIM cards and material used for making landmines to the Maoists last month after procuring the same in Vijayawada in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
In a separate instance the Ramagundam Commissionerate of Police arrested six couriers belonging to CPI-ML New Democracy group and recovered a 9 mm pistol, two magazines and three rounds of ammunition and literature from their possession.
Special police parties led by Godavarikhani Two Town police station personnel during combing operations in Veerlapalli village of Godavarikhani two town limits had nabbed six couriers belonging to the CPI-ML New Democracy group — Pittala Suresh, Mudragondla Nagaraj, Mothe Swamy, Kurre Yellaiah hailing from Jammikunta town and Balasani Badram from Badadri Kothagudem district and Sodari Laxmaiah from Eturu Nagaram Mulugu district — and recovered 9 mm pistol, two magazines and ammunition from them, Commissioner of Police V. Satyanarayana told media in Godavarikhani on Tuesday.
In another incident, the police recovered huge quantity explosives, 100 detonators and 100 slurry gelatin sticks, from Penchikal village of Kamanpur police station limits. During another operation, the police nabbed two former couriers of Maoists S. K. Nasir and Thogari Venkatswamy and bounded over before the Ramagundam tahsildar. Peddapalli DCP T. Sudarshan Goud and others were present.
