Amid reports of searches by Income Tax officials of properties associated with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, the department late on Monday evening issued a statement saying it had conducted search and seizure operations in Bhopal, New Delhi, Indore, and Goa on a group with links to politics and business.
The Delhi Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation) initiated search and seizure action on a group in NCR, Bhopal, Indore and Goa, the statement said.
It said the searches in Madhya Pradesh had detected a widespread and well-organised racket of collection of unaccounted-for cash of about ₹281 crore.” “A part of the cash was also transferred to the headquarters of a major political party in Delhi including about ₹20 crore which was moved through hawala recently to the headquarters of the political party from the residence of a senior functionary at Tughlak Road, New Delhi,” the statement said.
