79 floats will add glitz to Ram Navami shobhayatra

Nagpur: The city will ring in Ram Navami celebrations with fervour with Shri Ram Janmotsav Shobhayatra Samiti organizing the 53rd edition of ‘shobhayatra’ on April 13.
Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, union transport minister Nitin Gadkari, mayor Nanda Jichkar, guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, ex-MP Ajay Sancheti and commissioner of police Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay will be present, among others.
Addressing a press conference at Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir on Tuesday, trustee of the samiti Ramakrishna Poddar said, “People of all religions and castes take part in the yatra and promote peace, love and brotherhood.”
Maha aarti, shehnai recital, abhishek and Shri Ram sankeerthanam will be performed at 4am on Ram Navami.
The yatra will commence from Ram Mandir, Central Avenue, at 4pm after ‘mangal aarti’. It will pass through Itwari Shahid Chowk at 6pm, Mahal at 7.30pm, Cotton Market at 8pm and Sitabuldi at 10pm, informed members of the samiti.
Around 79 jhankis will depict various events from Lord Ram’s life and characters from epic ‘Ramayana’, like release of the yagyashva by Luv and Kush, Maharshi Valmiki, Kanak Bhavan Ayodhya, Lanka dahan by Lord Hanuman, search of Sita by Vanar Sena, Mahishasur Mardini, Narsimha avatar, Shri sant Ravidas Maharaj and Holi celebrations in Vrindavan.
Spectacular performances of bhangra, chhej, bhil lok, dhwaj and lezim will highlight the unity in diversity of different cultures of the country.
Celebrated artistes of the city will be felicitated by former MLA Dinanath Padole and Sanjay Pund.
Around 18,000 volunteers from 300 organizations will be present along the route of the yatra to manage the crowd. The NGOs will put up rest rooms for the convenience of women at various places in densely populated areas.
As part of Navratri celebrations, visitors to the temple are being treated to mellifluous bhajans by the city’s singers on the premises of the temple.
