Since starting captiotech.
3 for the first time in more than 65 years, brewing will take place in the city of logansport.the new logansport brewing company is set to open in early summer.we spoke with the owner who is bringing the city's brewing history out of the 1800's and into the present day.
3< in 1889 on high street in logansport...brewing was bustling.
"logansport has a pretty rich beer history."
Logansport brewing company and columbia brewing would dish up pints of beer for a little at .75 cents.
Then the dark days of prohibition killed the brewing business."after that it was kg schmidt here in logansport until 1954.
So from 1889 to 1954 we had a brewery in logansport.
Then in that 70 year lapse, people kind of forgot about it.and now on the banks of the eel river, logansport native brandon barron is brewing once again.
Bringing back the old brewing company in a new way."i want to conglomerate all the beer history into logansport brewing company and bring beer back to logansport."
The brew pub is on third street and eel river avenue in downtown.
They're hoping to to put a new spin on some old classics."you think of beer in the 1800's and you're like 'ah i don't know.'
But then you actually taste it and you're like...these guys actually made some pretty good beer back then.
So the original recipes is what's going to set us apart."
Barron says the brewery will have four staples.
"we will start off with edelweiss which is a hefeweizen.
Nonpareil which is a pale ale and devils dip which is an ipa.
And fun fact, devils dip is a dip right outside logansport.
It's rumored to be haunted."
He's also working on a "logansport berry sour" as well as other themed beers that will rotate every few weeks.
Barron says the place will scream logansport history -- bringing back items from the iron horse festival."it was a huge thing.
Probably about 10,000 people came to this festival.
There were vendors everywhere."
So when he saw the sign up for sale, he knew he had to get it.
"i was like 'i've got to bring that back to logansport!'
That's what i'm trying to do in here is bring things to logansport that are historical and relevant to logansport.> 3 barron says the brewery will host outdoor events in the summer months right next to the river.the brewery also will have a full kitchen with pub-style food -- making it available to those under 21.
Barron hopes to open by late may or early june, depending on
