Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claims had he used government investigating agencies, then the top leaders of various political parties would have found themselves in jail. Fadnavis was speaking to a Marathi news channel.
Refuting allegations of pressure, Fadnavis said, “We did not want to use government agencies even though many leaders from Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have been facing inquiries in corruption cases.” Taunting the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), he said, “It has gone from MNS to UNS — ‘Ummedvar Nasleli Sena (party without candidates).” Speaking of Sharad Pawar, he said, “He is spreading casteist poison in the state.”
Fadnavis claims his government will try to ensure the benefits of the Goods and Service Tax are passed on to the poorest and the farmers. “Government coffers have got filled due to GST and it has helped stop corruption,” said Fadnavis. He slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and said nobody takes him seriously. “He could not explain how farmers are going to get Rs 72,000 a year in their accounts.”
Fadnavis claims the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) government will be re-elected and it will have to make provisions for the poor. “A sensitive Prime Minister’s sensitive manifesto,” was how he described his party’s manifesto. He refuted claims that the PM had ever promised that every Indian would receive Rs 15 lakh in their bank account.
