Canadian Friends of Sheba Medical Center hosted a VIP reception on Sunday, March 24, 2019 for local philanthropists, which featured Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer Director General Prof. Yitshak Kreiss. The participants listened attentively as Prof. Kreiss spoke about the important role Sheba Medical Center plays in the world and the latest innovations under development at Israel’s national hospital.

Prof. Kreiss detailed the journey of Sheba Medical Center from its founding in 1948 to its current position as an internationally recognized leader in medical innovation and research. As he spoke, he stood in front of a poster highlighting Sheba’s recent ranking as one of the Top 10 Best Hospitals in the World by Newsweek Magazine.

Prof. Kreiss also explained how Sheba is not only the Middle East’s largest and most comprehensive hospital, but also works to spread peace through medicine, citing some of its latest international humanitarian missions like the most recent effort to assist with the public health crisis in Mozambique in the aftermath of Cyclone Idai, which devastated the country’s second largest city.

Prof. Kreiss discussed Sheba’s close connection with the Israel Defense Forces and Sheba’s revolutionary ARC (Accelerate-Redesign-Collaborate) Innovation Center, which is producing a variety of medical innovations.

Yoram Tietz, Managing Partner of Ernst & Young Israel and the new Chairman of Sheba Friends Guild, also spoke about innovation in Israel, and how, as a board member, he has supported Sheba Israel for more than a decade.

The intimate reception was hosted by Dr. Daryl Roitman and Dr. Rosalie Steinberg.

“It is always a pleasure to meet with supporters of Canadian Friends of Sheba Medical Center and to be able to deliver updates on the many significant things that are taking place at Sheba,” said Prof. Kreiss. “The amazing work that we do is made possible through the continued encouragement and partnership of Canadian Friends of Sheba, for which we are grateful.”
