Swimming lessons turned into an unfortunate end for an 8-year-old boy who died after drowning in a civic body pool in Vasai. Yug Ladhwa, a class 3 student, enrolled himself for swimming training in his summer vacations at Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation swimming pool. He died on the very first day of his training after drowning on Sunday.
His swimming coach Rahul Toke, contractor Balkrishna Sharma and two others were charged for causing death by negligence under section 304 of IPC. All of them have also been remanded in police custody by Vasai Court and can be imprisoned for two years in the case.
Yug’s parents brought him to the civic body swimming at around 6:30 pm on Sunday. Some other children also came to learn swimming. His parents were told to leave the area and come after an hour to pick him up. When they returned after an hour, they could not find Yug.
When they enquired the officials about the same, they alleged that their son would have already left. The parents started searching for him in nearby areas. Later, they came to find out that their son had drowned in the swimming pool during training. His body was found by pool officials who tried to revive him.
He was brought to nearby Golden Park hospital where he was examined and declared dead. An autopsy report claimed death by drowning. Yug’s parents blamed swimming pool officials for negligence that led to death of their son. They also alleged that there was no life guard at the pool premises which was confirmed by police after investigation.
