There were nine candidates in Palakkad and six in Alathur when the Election Commission published the final list of candidates after the deadline for withdrawal passed on Monday afternoon.
CPI(M)’s M.B. Rajesh, Congress’s V.K. Sreekandan, and BJP’s C. Krishnakumar are the main contenders in Palakkad.
Besides them, Bahujan Samaj Party’s Hari Arumbil, Social Democratic Party of India’s Thulaseedharan Pallikkal, and independent candidates C. Chandran, Balakrishnan, Rajesh Palolam, and Rajesh are contesting in Palakkad.
Main contestants
In Alathur, CPI(M)’s P.K. Biju, Congress’s Ramya Haridas, and BDJS’s T.V. Babu are the main contenders. BSP candidate Jayan C. Kuthannur, and independent candidates Krishnankutty Kunisseri and P.K. Pratheepkumar too are in the fray.
In Palakkad, Mr. Krishnakumar has lotus as his symbol, Mr. Rajesh has hammer and sickle, Mr. Sreekandan has right hand and Mr. Hari has elephant.
The Election Commission allotted autorickshaw to Mr. Thulaseedharan, glass tumbler to Mr. Chandran, television to Mr. Balakrishnan, dish antennae to Mr. Palolath, and cup-saucer to Mr. Rajesh.
In Alathur, Ms. Ramya has right palm, Mr. Biju has hammer and sickle, and Dr. Jayan has elephant. The Election Commission has allotted pot to Mr. Babu, pen nib to Mr. Kunisseri, and glass tumbler to Mr. Pradeepkumar.
