‘If Cong.-JD(S) had commitment, irrigation projects would not have been pending’

Claiming that the chowkidar did what he had said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a dig at the Congress-JD(S) coalition government for allegedly not walking the talk with respect to its promise of farm loan waiver.

“Instead of loan waiver that the coalition government had announced, the farmers of Karnataka received warrants from banks,” he remarked.

Addressing a BJP rally in Chitradurga on Tuesday, Mr. Modi termed the coalition government as a “mixture”, which had been formed by two defeated parties for the sake of power and selfishness.

“Nobody knows who is running the government here. They are indulging in all sorts of circus for power and they are least bothered about what the public needs. And now they want to do the same thing in Delhi forming a government, which will be remote controlled by a dozen people,” he said.

Seeking an answer from the crowd on whether they wanted such a government, Mr. Modi said the country needed a stable and strong government whose high command should be 130 crore Indians.

He said the election was not for electing an MP or a PM but for choosing a strong government for strong India.

The Prime Minister accused the Congress of dividing the country for the sake of votes on the lines of caste since independence. “In Karnataka, they tried the same during Assembly elections by dividing the Lingayat community and then Vokkaliga community. They believe in divisive politics and divide the society wherever they can. From Independence times, their policy is of appeasement and it is clearly visible now. But the BJP believes in taking all along in the path of progress,” he said.

Referring to how Madakari Nayaka and Onake Obavva protected the Chitradurga fort, he called upon on all the chowkidars to emulate them by working towards protecting the country.

Referring to local issues, Mr. Modi said if the Congress and JD(S) leaders had commitment, the Upper Bhadra project and other irrigation projects would not have been kept pending for decades in the region. Accusing the Congress of pushing the country into corruption and meting out injustice to four generations, Mr. Modi said the 21st century youths would punish the Congress for its injustice done to them in the 20th century. “Time has now come for giving justice to people for the injustice done by Congress for 60 years,” he said. Referring to the various scams including 2G, Coalgate, Commonwealth and National Herald during the Congress rule, he said that definitely justice would be done now.
