Prerana, the three-day district conference of Rotary International district 3232 was held at the Chennai Trade Centre from April 5 to 7.
The conference was inaugurated by the Governor Banwarilal Purohit. “All of those who are assembled here have the capacity to change the society. I request the members to contribute liberally, time and money, for the benefit of society,” he said and further congratulated the rotary clubs on their successful projects.
Speaking at the inaugural, Babu Peram, Rotary district governor said this was the first time that the district conference was being chaired entirely by all the presidents of the club.
The ‘service above self award’ was given to Abirami Ramanathan. On the second day of the conference the all-women crew of INS-TARINI was recognised with the ‘Rotary women empowerment award’. The conference also had a speech delivered by Neelam Jain, the founder of PerriFerry, who spoke about the need to have inclusive workspaces and offer employment opportunities to transgenders.
Sudhanshu Mani, the creator of TRAIN 18, P. Raveendran, Chairman of the Chennai Port Trust and Chitra Ravi, Managing Director of Chrysalis, were among the other speakers.
