Central University Punjab ranks first among new Central Universities in latest NIRF rankings

Central University of Punjab, Bathinda got first position from amongst the newly established Central Universities in the latest National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 ranking published by Ministry of Human Resources Development and released by President Ram Nath Kovid. Central University though achieved 95th position among Universities in India but it at the top from among newly formed central universities. A number of established universities fared lower than Central University Punjab. Central University Punjab was established by an act of parliament in 2009 along with other 19 Central Universities. In terms of overall ranking, CU Punjab and CU Kerala have been placed in 101-150 rank-band.
Two of the faculties from Central University of Punjab were elected as fellows of the most prestigious young academy of sciences in India, INYAS, which function under Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. Jitendra Pattanaik from Department of Geology and Felix Bast from Department of Plant Sciences are the only faculties from any newly established Central Universities among 100 fellows of INYAS at present. Felix Bast received this year’s prestigious Teaching Innovator Award from Ministry of Human Resources and Development and also received internationally acclaimed ZMT-Leibniz International Fellowship. During 2016-17, Felix Bast and Jitendra Pattanaik undertook an expedition to Antarctica and stayed at India’s research stations, Bharti and Maitri, as part of Ministry of Earth Sciences Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica-36 delegation, said CU Punjab Vice Chancellor RK Kohli.
Central University of Punjab is now at the final stage of moving to its new campus at village Ghudda, spread over 500 acres.
