Seizure of cash, a majority of which is meant for distribution among voters ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, has crossed the ₹ 50 crore mark.
The enforcement personnel of the police and Income Tax departments have together seized ₹ 54.55 crore in cash. Of this, seizure by the police accounted to ₹ 35.34 crore and the IT department ₹ 19.2 crore. Officials concerned also seized large quantity of 3.04 lakh litres of liquor with an estimated worth of ₹ 4.33 crore since the election process commenced in March first week. Seizure by the Excise Department accounted for ₹ 3.32 crore and that by the police department was pegged at ₹ 1.01 crore.
In all, narcotics/drugs worth ₹ 2.78 crore had been seized so far while metals primarily gold and silver ornaments worth ₹ 27.96 lakh had been apprehended. Officials also seized other items like sarees, cash counting machines and rice all worth ₹ 34.58 lakh taking the value of total seizures to ₹ 62.34 crore.
