A doctor had a narrow escape when the car he was driving crashed through the barricade of the Vyttilla rail overbridge and nosedived right next to the railway track beneath after being hit from behind by a container lorry around 9.45 a.m. on Monday.

Arjun K., 30, of Punnakkal near Elamakkara, was on his way to the clinic at Piravom where he is working when the accident occurred. Though the car was totally damaged, the doctor escaped without being seriously hurt.

He was helped out of the car by workers and local people. The police said a lorry coming from behind hit the car after the doctor had to apply the brakes midway through overtaking an autorickshaw.

Though he was rushed to a hospital nearby, he was discharged shortly thereafter with an advice to take rest. The Palarivattom police are yet to register a case. The police said that a case would be registered if the doctor lodged a complaint.
