Civic body will strengthen bund, erect bio-fence using trees

Coimbatore Corporation has begun work at the Selva Chinthamani tank recently. According to Corporation sources, the civic body will develop the tank at ₹ 31.47 crore under the Smart Cities Mission.

The work involves developing the 1.50 km-long bund of the tank, which is spread over 35.22 acre. The Corporation will strengthen the bund, erect a bio-fence using trees and also treat the water flowing in from the Kumarasamy tank.

The sources also say that the Corporation will also erect two viewing decks, a floating pavilion and two more viewing decks with roofs.

The work has begun and the Corporation will complete the work in the next 18 months.

The Corporation developing the tank is part of the Phase I of its project to develop all the eight water tanks in the city. The other two tanks that it is developing are the Ukkadam Periyakulam at ₹ 62.17 crore and Valangulam at ₹ 67.86 crore.

Once the Corporation completes the work, it will take up the remaining part of Periyakulam and Valangulam in Phase II. The Phase III of the work involves developing the upstream lakes that are west of the city.
