Responding to the Congress allegation that the TRS in spite of having 16 MPs in the 16th Lok Sabha - they won 13 and three MPs joined it later - couldn’t achieve anything, TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said the strength this time will serve a different purpose.
“We had only 12 or 13 MPs. But this time, since Congress won’t cross 100 seats and the BJP 150, regional parties will play a crucial role. That’s why 16 seats are important,” he said, seeking blessings for the TRS in Nalgonda on Tuesday.
Participating in the roadshow of Nalgonda LS candidate Vemireddy Narsimha Reddy, KTR said only numbers matter in Delhi.
“Why do we need a chowkidaar (watchman)? We’ll have a zimmedaar (responsible), zordaar (strong) and wafadaar (loyal) KCR,” he told the gathering at the clock tower.
“I know many women here still struggle for drinking water. Mission Bhagiratha is in the last stage,” he said. He reminded them that Nalgonda is Chief Minister KCR’s adopted constituency and more than ₹1,000 crore would be sanctioned for its development.
But disappointment was palpable from a small section as KTR did not mention anything about fluorosis or its survivors. Party leaders also looked concerned as the last day campaign did not draw the expected crowd. According to one estimate, there were not more than 5,000 people.
