GHAZIABAD: A former inspector-general of UP Police has filed a police complaint alleging that some people had used his Aadhaar card details to ship drugs to the US. An FIR has been registered at Indirapuram police station and cops are trying to identify the accused.
Subhash Chandra Gupta (70), a retired IPS officer and resident of Sahyog Apartment in Sector 9, Vasundhara, said he received an undelivered courier package on Saturday. The package, addressed to a person in the US, had his Late father’s name and Gupta’s address on it as the sender and had been returned to his home.
Enclosed with the package was a photocopy of Gupta’s Aadhaar card.
When he opened the package, he found strips of some tablets inside. “There was a mobile number written below my address. I tried calling it, but it turned out to be invalid. A Truecaller search revealed that it was the number of one Priya Durgapal from Jammu and Kashmir. I know of no such person by this name, and this mobile number has never been in use by me or my family,” the retired officer said.
Gupta said he had received a similar package a month ago. “I had received a similar undelivered package last month. I had consulted friends from the medical field, and they told me that these tablets are used as drugs. Considering it to be a prank or an accident, I did not take it seriously. But this time, I was alarmed to find a copy of my Aadhaar card attached, and immediately approached the police,” Gupta said.
Gupta retired as inspector-general in 2008. He was also posted in Ghaziabad as SSP during 1997-98. SP (City) Shlok Kumar said an FIR was lodged against unidentified persons under Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly including delivery of property) of the IPC at Indirapuram police station on Sunday. “The package and tablets have been sent to a forensic lab for examination,” he said.
