General Elections 2019

Both leaders address many election meetings in the district

Curtains came down on an intense high-decibel campaign for the general elections-2019, the second elections after the bifurcation of the State. With curbs on canvassing beginning at 6 pm, 48 hours before the polling ends on April 11, the candidates closed the campaign by evening.

Elections are being held for 17 Assembly segments and three Lok Sabha constituencies in the district. A.P. is among the States that are going to the polls in the first phase and in view of the short duration between the nomination and the polling dates the candidates had gone the whole hog in their campaign.

A total of 317 candidates are in fray for both Assembly and Lok Sabha. Thirty-four candidates are in fray from the Guntur West Assembly segment, followed by Mangalagiri (32 candidates) and Guntur East (27). Nineteen nominees are in the race from the Guntur Lok Sabha segment and 13 from the Narsaraopet Lok Sabha segment.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Leader of the Opposition and YSR Congress Party president Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy spent the last day of campaigning in the district. Both leaders addressed four meetings in a day, rushing through their speeches and appealing to voters to give a chance to rule the State.

Naidu began the day by addressing a roadshow at Gurazala, and later at Sattenapalli. Naidu signed off by campaigning in Tadikonda Assembly segment.

Jagan Mohan Reddy began his day by addressing a meeting at Mangalagiri, and addressed meetings at Ponnur and later wound up the campaign by addressing a meeting in Tirupati.

In the district, MP Galla Jayadev (TDP) took part in campaigning at Tadikonda while Modugula Venugopala Reddy (YSRCP) campaigned at Mangalagiri. Lavu Krishnadevarayulu (YSRCP) campaigned along with his wife Meghana at Narsaraopet while Rayapati Sambasiva Rao wound up his campaign at Sattenapalli.

The candidates for Assembly took part in roadshows accompanied by their followers.
