KOLKATA: Another round of thunderstorm gave the city a miss on Monday, despite prediction by the Met office. A cyclonic circulation over Gangetic Bengal was to bring the thundershower, but, according to the Met office, the lack of heating due to lower daytime temperature was one of the reasons the thunder squall failed to show up.

“The circulation has been gathering strength from a steady moisture incursion. Conditions have been suitable for a storm since Sunday evening. But lack of heating due to a lower daytime temperature on Sunday has delayed it,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director G K Das.

A cyclonic circulation over Gangetic Bengal had started forming in Jharkhand on Sunday. Even as this system was in place and moisture incursion was on the right track, the daytime heating was insufficient — at 32.2°C, the maximum temperature was three degrees below normal.

However, storms lashed parts of districts in south Bengal on Monday.

On Friday evening, Kolkata was hit by twin squalls that clocked wind speeds of 61kmph and 81kmph.
