Dharwad: Congress candidate Vinay Kulkarni on Tuesday said he is unfazed by a court’s direction to the police to file an FIR against him in connection with a murder case.

Hearing a petition filed by Gurunathgouda Goudar, elder brother of slain ZP member Yogeeshgouda Goudar, JMFC Vijayalaxmi Ghanapur on Monday directed police to file an FIR against two DySPs and Kulkarni for allegedly trying to threaten witnesses and destroy evidence in the murder case and conduct an inquiry.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Kulkarni blamed MP and BJP candidate Pralhad Joshi for raking up the issue during elections just to misguide people.

“Gurunathgouda Goudar who has filed the petition in court is moving with Joshi every day. My name does not figure in the FIR and chargesheet of the case. Now during elections, the issue has been raked up suddenly. It is a conspiracy hatched by Joshi to malign me,” he charged.

Kulkarni said that already 59 of the 62 witnesses in the case have been examined and charges against him have cropped up now. “Joshi does not tolerate a Lingayat leader emerging and will do everything to snub him,” he charged.
