Mysterious Ferrari FXX K Evo Test Car Spied At The Nurburgring

Ferrari has been photographed testing a fully wrapped FXX K Evo at the famous German track, flooding the ears of bystanders with angry V12 music and raising more questions than answers.

Compared to the “standard” FXX K Evo, the car pictured here doesn’t appear to have any changes; in fact even the pattern of the camouflage wrap seems the same as the development prototype that was seen back in 2017.

We can’t tell for sure what’s going on here, but we do have a couple of theories. For starters, it could be the next development in Ferrari’s super-exclusive FXX program, with the Italian company testing new settings, and/or mechanical upgrades of the hybrid V12 powertrain.

That said, the FXX K Evo is already an improved version of the FXX K but Ferrari might want to take care of its A-list customers with another upgrade. After all, the whole FXX program was about Ferrari offering the most cutting-edge, racecar-like experience available.

Another theory that has us hooked is that Ferrari is using the specific FXX K Evo as an early mule for its 2020 Le Mans Hypercar race car. Ferrari is believed to be one of the manufacturers that has committed to the new racing class, although nothing has been officially confirmed at this point.

If you don’t remember, the FXX-K Evo is powered by the same hybrid V12 powertrain with the LaFerrari, only here it makes well over 1,000hp instead of the 950hp you’ll get in the road-car. It also produces 75 percent more downforce than the LaFerrari, generating over 830kg (1,830lbs) of downforce at top speed.

We’re not sure how exactly could anyone improve a machine like this but then again, we’re not Ferrari…
