The 2019 election was crucial as it would decide the future of India, said CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday.
Addressing a gathering in support of DMK candidate Kanimozhi, he said that the election would decide whether rights granted to the people by the Constitution would continue or not. “We have to defeat the BJP and that is the only way to protect the country,” he said.
He said the economy and employment scenario in the country were in a shambles. Implementation of GST and demonetisation have hit trade including safety match and kadalaimittai business in Kovilpatti.
He said loans to the tune of ₹13 lakh crore were given to friends of the Prime Minister, who have fled the country without repaying them. Rafale is the biggest scam committed by the Prime Minister for his friend Anil Ambani.
He said that the BJP leaders made no mention of earlier promises made by the party during the release of the BJP manifesto. Institutions in India including the CBI, judiciary and RBI are under threat.
Mr. Modi has been raking up issues like surgical strike to whip up sentiments of people while the number of terrorist attacks have doubled during the current regime, he said.
