SPORTS: Soccer, swimming and diving, outdoor track and field

Bogan's a Fall River name, so to those who don't already know, yes, the Bishop Connolly senior is indeed part of that well-known Spindle City family. Her dad is Bob Bogan, the former football player and football head coach at Durfee, and now president of Borden and Remington Co. And that means her grandfather is Daniel Bogan, CEO and chairman of the board at BOREMCO, former city councilor and former mayor. Christy has carved out a reputation for herself at Bishop Connolly as a superior student-athlete. She's competed in soccer and outdoor track and field for four years and is a two-time team captain in the latter sport. When Bishop Connolly formed a swimming and diving team in her junior year, Bogan took the plunge and was captain this past season. Not surprisingly, she provided us with a superb Q&A.

Herald News: What person, living or dead, do you most admire and why?

Christy Bogan: I admire my grandfather. He lived in Fall River for all of his life, and built something out of nothing. He supports me in all of my sports and in school. He is an everyday reminder that I can make my life the best it can be.

HN: Who is your favorite athlete and why?

CB: Michael Phelps, an amazing swimmer, is my favorite athlete. In seventh grade, I had to do a research paper on anyone, and I picked him. He shows me that if I work hard, I can achieve anything.

HN: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

CB: I see myself with a job as an investigative journalist living in Boston. It’s a good paying job, but on the side I am writing a book that I plan to publish.

HN: What has been your biggest moment as a high school athlete?

CB: The Connolly girls soccer team had not made it to playoffs in six years, and being a part of the team that made it, was huge. That season as a whole was amazing, but being at the playoff game was the biggest moment.

HN: When not playing high school sports, how do you spend your time?

CB: Baking, listening to music, spending time with friends, reading my favorite stories, writing, and doing homework.

HN: If you were the principal of your school, what one change would you make?

CB: I would have longer lunch times, with couches for people to relax in after.

HN: What do you hope people will say about you when your playing days are over?

CB: I want them to say that I was a leader, someone who they looked up to. I hope they see me as a friend, someone they can turn to when they need it. Finally, I hope they say I was positive and encouraged them to continue to do better.

HN: What is your favorite subject in school and why?

CB: I really enjoy English. I have always been good at reading comprehension, and reading is one of my favorite things to do, along with writing.

HN: If you won a million dollars, what would be your first purchase?

CB: I would buy a new track for Bishop Connolly and name it after one of my favorite teachers: The Vieira Stadium.

HN: Tell us something most people don’t know about you?

CB: I have been skiing since I was five, and I have become quite a good skier.

HN: What is your favorite dinner meal?

CB: Pork au poivre, my mom is a very good cook and this is my favorite dish that she makes.

HN: What is your favorite book?

CB: "The Hate You Give" by Angie Thomas.

HN: What is your favorite video game?

CB: Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

HN: How long could you function without your smart phone?

CB: At least 1 month.

HN: Whom in this world would you most like to hit in the face with a pie?

CB: The person who invented the SATs.
