UDHAGAMANDALAM: Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has said his government will conduct an inquiry into why former DMK chief M Karunanidhi was not taken abroad for speech therapy. The present DMK president, M K Stalin, did not show any interest as he was keen to succeed his father as party chief, Palaniswami alleged, adding that some DMK workers themselves had complained about this.

Campaigning in Coonoor on Monday for M Thyagarajan, AIADMK candidate for the Nilgiris LS seat, Palaniswami said his government would take care of plantation workers.

The water problem in Coonoor town would also be addressed soon as the 95-crore Emerald project is under way.

Speaking at the ATC bus stand junction in Ooty later, he said DMK candidate A Raja is involved in the 2G scam and the case is not yet over, “The CBI and the EC have gone on appeal in the Supreme Court. When Stalin is talking about scams during his election campaign how is it that his party has fielded an alleged scamster who was sent to jail, in the election?”

Palaniswami appealed to the public to decide for themselves while choosing their candidate.

He accused Raja of not having taken proper rehabilitation measures during the 2009 floods in the Nilgiris.

Pointing out that the DMK government was the only one in the country dismissed for its scams, he asked: “Why is Stalin helping the accused in the Kodanad murder case in obtaining bail? You can, by now, see the link,” he said.
