Election officials undergo training in emergency response, poll procedures

11,255 officers drafted for Cuddalore and Chidambaram attend the session

The district administration on Sunday conducted the second round of training for booth-level polling officers at various places in the district on Sunday.

According to a release, assistant returning officers of Assembly segments coming under the Cuddalore and Chidambaram (Reserved) Lok Sabha constituencies in the district conducted the training programme for 11,255 polling officers.

District Election Officer and Collector V. Anbuselvan supervised the training programme and reviewed the arrangements in Neyveli. The training was to inform the polling officers their role and responsibility, how to conduct the elections as per the instructions of the Election Commission and what action to be taken in case of an emergency.

The district administration has begun the distribution of booth slips to 20.36 lakh voters in the district. Arrangements had been made to distribute booth slips to all households and 44,935 booth slips had been issued so far.

Necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of polls.

Facilities would be provided for the people with disabilities in all the polling booths in Cuddalore and Chidambaram (Reserved) Lok Sabha constituencies, he said.

Extensive arrangements

District Election Officer and Collector L. Subramanian said the administration had made extensive arrangements to install web cameras in 1,497 polling booths in Villupuram district. A token-based would be introduced at every polling booth to facilitate queue-less voting. Ten persons would be issued tokens in a batch and they could exercise their franchise while waiting in an adjacent room.
