Ambala: Man commits suicide; ex-wife, father-in-law booked

AMBALA: A woman and her father have been booked after her former husband committted suicide in Chanderpuri Colony of Ambala Cantonment in Haryana on Tuesday.
Praveen Kumar (44) who hanged himself from the ceiling fan at his room on Tuesday morning. The suspects - identified as Sheetal and Chander Prakash, residents of Sector 47, Chandigarh - have been booked for abetment to suicide.
In his complaint to police, Om Prakash, the father of the deceased, alleged, “My son got married to Sheetal in 2008 and the couple had one daughter. After some years of the marriage, they had a dispute and they started living separately and filed a case for divorce, in which Praveen had got the decree of divorce. In October 2012, Sheetal filed a case against Praveen under sections 498-A and 406 of Indian Penal Code at Sector 31 police station in Chandigarh in which a Chandigarh court had sentenced Praveen Kumar to three years of imprisonment. However, he got bail from the high court after three months. The case was also transferred to the sessions court. Meanwhile, nearly four years ago, Praveen got married to Pooja, a resident of Gujarat, and they had a 1.5-year-old son.”
As per the information, nearly one month ago, the case between Praveen and Sheetal got settled at an amount of Rs 5.60 lakh of which Rs 2 lakh was given to her nearly 15 days ago and the remaining amount was to be given to Sheetal within a period of six months.
Om Prakash alleged that the Parveen had borrowed Rs 2 lakh from his friend, which was given to Sheetal, and he had no money to pay the remaining amount following which he was under mental stress. Om Prakash also alleged that the suspects had threatened Praveen while demanding the money which forced him to take the extreme step. A suicide note was also recovered from the pants of the deceased.
After getting information, DSP Munish Sehgal and forensic expert Dr GR Jain visited the spot for inspection.
The deceased was a motor mechanic and is survived by his wife Pooja and 1.5-year-old son.
Investigating Officer Ramesh Kumar said “The body has been handed over the family after the post-mortem and on the complaint of deceased’s father a case under Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC has been registered against the accused Sheetal and her father Chander Parkash at Parao police station. Further investigation is being done.”
