Bhandara: Two-wheeler rallies, padyatras and a public meeting of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis marked the last day of campaigning in Bhandara-Gondia constituency.
Fadnavis addressed a meeting in Bhandara for the BJP candidate Sunil Mendhe. He said that the country had progressed tremendously under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Poverty had gone down and lakhs of youths had got jobs. India had taught Pakistan a lesson wherever it threatened our national security.
Earlier, Mendhe and his supporters took out a padyatra in Bhandara town. They covered a large party of the city and urged voters to press the lotus symbol.
NCP candidate Nana Panchbudhe also did a padyatra in the town. His supporters sought vote for the Congress-NCP alliance. They told people that Modi government had failed completely and hence UPA should be given a chance.
In Gondia, BJP supporters took out a two-wheeler rally that covered large part of the town. BSP candidate Vijaya Nandurkar started her two-wheeler rally from Tiroda and after passing through Gondia went towards Sadak Arjuni.
Many prominent politicians of both parties — BJP and NCP — have campaigned for their candidates in the constituency. NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, state president Jayant Patil, Dhananjay Munde, Chhagan Bhujbal and Praful Patel have pitched for Panchbudhe while PM Modi, CM Fadnavis and Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari have addressed public meetings for Mendhe. While Modi held a mammoth public meeting in Gondia, Pawar addressed two meetings in Sakoli and Tumsar. No top Congress or Shiv Sena leader has campaigned for their ally’s candidates.
The constituency is witnessing a straight fight between Mendhe and Panchbudhe. The other prominent candidates are Nandurkar of BSP and BJP rebel Rajendra Patle. Nandurkar’s public meetings have attracted good crowds which is a cause of worry for NCP. Patle too is getting good response from the Powar community, to which Patle belongs. This has caused concern in the BJP camp.
One positive point for BJP is that Congress leader Nana Patole is not campaigning in the constituency as he is contesting the election from Nagpur. Patole had ensured the defeat of BJP candidate Hemant Patle in the 2018 by-election.
