SWANSEA — Only 282 of over 11,000 registered voters took part in the annual election that had only one race and another to be determined by write-ins.

In the only contested race, Albert Dias defeated Jordan Khoury 172-87 for the three-year unexpired term of Joseph Martin. Martin left the commission following his promotion to police lieutenant last year.

Dias noted that he was looking forward to being a member of the Park Commission.

“I’d like to thank everyone for voting toady,” Dias said. “I look forward to working with the other members of the Park Commission and continue making a positive impact in our community.”

Dias also thanked his opponent for making it a “good run.”

Khoury was among three constables who were elected with three other positions in that group to be determined by write-in votes. The numbers for the three constable positions to be determined by write-ins had not been tabulated by this writing Monday night. Lt. Martin was one of the incumbents not seeking re-election as constable. Two other incumbents, Police Sgt. Mark Foley and retired lieutenant Richard Looker also did not have their names on the ballot this year.

Khoury received 177 votes while fellow constable incumbents Robert Furtado and Christopher Carreiro received 198 and 195, respectively.
