The Madras High Court verdict on the Salem-Chennai expressway gave fresh ammunition to the opposition to counter the AIADMK-BJP alliance. Quick to react on the order, DMK president M K Stalin demanded Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to immediately announce that his government would not move an appeal against the verdict.

The DMK, in its poll manifesto, has said that it would not accept the project. “Laying of this road will bring catastrophic impact on the livelihood of the people, especially women and children. Therefore, DMK will not accept this project,” the DMK has promised, suggesting widening of the existing highways between Salem and Chennai by utilising the already acquired lands lying on both the sides of the highways.
In a statement, Stalin said that the High Court has delivered a “deadly blow” to the Edappadi regime for not respecting the sentiments of the people. Demanding an apology from the CM for “torturing the people”, the DMK president, who is also the Leader of Opposition, said that the CM should immediately declare that they would not move an appeal against the HC order. Urging Anbumani Ramadoss to get an assurance from the CM in this regard, Stalin sought to know if the PMK would quit the AIADMK alliance if it fails to secure the assurance, mounting pressure on the ally of the ruling party.
