AGRA: Election officials in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday seized 480 sarees carrying a tag of “BJP Modi Sarkar”, which were being transported from Mathura to Haldwani. An FIR has been registered against the vehicle driver for poll code violation.
Sales tax officer Kartar Singh, who is also in-charge of election flying squad, said during the vehicle checking at NH 93 bypass near Nagla Bhuj around 1pm, the team intercepted a vehicle carrying consignment of sarees. “I saw a bill declaring, 'Modi Sarkar brand', then we opened the consignment, and found tag on each saree,” he said.
He told TOI that all sarees have been deposited in treasury and further inquiries are being conducted by the administrative officials, who are involved in Election Monitoring Committee.
Hathras ADM AK Shukla said an FIR was being registered against the driver Dharmendra Kumar under various sections of Representation of People Act, 1951. He said that no election campaign related material can be transported without prior permission. He said three large bundles with 480 sarees were being transported to Haldwani without permission.
The orange-colour sarees with a tag of BJP Modi Sarkar also carry a label “Manoj textiles since 1975” with two mobile numbers mentioned on it. The district authorities are looking into the matter to get more details.
